Man Fridays Restaurant, Torquay

is located at the South of Devon. The town of Torbay; Torquay, Paignton and Brixham collectively constitutes the English Riviera.

When visiting this seaside resort, do not miss lunch at Man Fridays Restaurant.

Balcony view of old-world Victorian elegance and the seafront promenade.

simple table setting

order a glass of house white wine to go with your seafood selection...

There's a wide range of seafood on it's menu to choose from. They also have a very good lunch deal (around £12)

Warm herb bread served with garlic butter or butter and olives to start with. (very good olives!)

Starter: Lobster Chowder for him

very yummy... good quality and amount of lobster meat.

and CRAB SOUFFLE for me. It is unique and very very tasty. This is part of the 3 course lunch deal.

Main meal: GRILLED KING PRAWNS AND SCALLOPS grilled to near perfection.

and Seafood Pasta with mussles, prawns, squid and salmon. (part of the course)

tasted rather good too but the portion was so huge. Halfway, I was already very full and couldnt finish eating it.

Sides came with the mains as well..
3 types of patatoes - baked, dauphinoise and roasted.

and mix vegetables

Almost stuffed at this point, there was dessert (part of the 3 course).
I opted for apple (i think) tart with passionfruit ice-cream. The tart was not too sweet and served warm, the homemade ice-cream was very good too.

GREAT FOOD, GORGEOUS VIEWS & GOOD SERVICE!

To end this post, here is a beautiful picture of Torquay...

To get to the restaurant; from the harbour look towards the streets where all the giftshops, tearooms and hotels are.. look up and find a first floor restaurant with two white patio umbrella.

Lyme Regis, Dorset/Devon Coastline

When visiting Devon, it would be worth a stopover at Lyme Regis, an ancient town dating back to 774 AD. The untouched beauty of it's coastline and it's history and geology has granted this place a World Heritage status.

Few would know, some of the world's first dinosaur skeletons were discovered here!
Fossil hunting.. anyone?

We made a stop at Lyme Regis, which is located closeby an old fishing village for dinner. Hix Oyster and Fish House was apparently fully booked till the following week, so we settled for The Mad Hatters Restaurant.

This restaurant was not busy on a Saturday evening. There were only two other tables.

They do not serve alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own. There is a wine shop just a few doors away.

Salad which came with the Grilled beef with mushroom sauce

Poached seabass with cream sauce, mash potato and grilled vegetables.

The food tasted alright. Not great. We were quite disappointed as there was a set dinner menu and there wasnt many seafood choices in the menu although they were close to sea and harbour.
They could do with more hats to go with the name and liven the place up as well as license to sell alcohol. Also, a better and more exciting menu, serving fresh seafood and local catch.

Polperro, Cornwall

A picturesque ancient fishing village with a small harbour.
If you have time, it will be worth visiting the Heritage Museum there where you can find out how smugglers operate at night (in the past)!
Current day, this place is a busy tourists destination, particularly during spring and summer season.

You can choose to go on the tram or horse-drawn carriage to the centre, then walk through narrow lanes towards the harbour; Or you can walk all the way to the harbour while checking out the shops along the street.

Cornish Fudge Shop

Artists exhibition and Gallery

Not to be missed are Cornish pasties and Clotted cream ice-cream! Wright's here make their own ice cream, with a variety of flavours to choose from.

The Chip Ahoy, a long-standing family run fish and chips restaurant

serves local catch called THE ROCK

There are also many other family run stores and seafood restaurant.

Restaurant with a running mill..

Above all, what makes Polperro worth a visit and jammed with people year after year are the serebeautiful coastal paths

and postcard-like picturesque views...

Regency Restaurant, Brighton

"If you want fish, simply but expertly cooked at a price that won't make you feel like you bought the fishing boat that landed the ingredients, there's not much to beat The Regency."

Jay Rayner - The Observer.

"It's a really good all-things-to- everybody restaurant. It's not expensive, there's a great atmosphere ... everything they do is great."
Rick Stein, author of Rick Stein's Seafood Lovers' Guide.

..........................................are among the many fantastic reviews about the place.

One of the Oldest Restaurant in Brighton, established in 1965, Regency Restaurant is a definite must-go!

It is very popular amongst locals and tourists alike offering fresh seafood and local catch with reasonable prices.

The oysters were a good size and very fresh! priced at £6

The shellfish platter whole lobster, prawns, oysters, scallops and a bowl mussels with white wine was absolutely fantastic priced at
£34.00

Some close ups of what's in the platter...

Succulent cheese-baked lobster.. and grilled prawns

Cheese-baked oysters

not forgetting the fresh Mussels with white wine.. the sauce rich and tasty perfect for dipping with some fresh bread..

BEST OF ALL.. huge scallops with roe

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Tapas at Las Iguanas, Nottingham

On a Saturday afternoon, a walked around Nottingham led us to late latin lunch at Las Iguanas.
The ambience was great and relaxing... you can choose to sit inside or outdoor..
Their lemon-lime coolers were yummy and thirst quenching!
We decided to order tapas to share, they had 3 for £12 or 5 for £20 deal.

Calamares

Sliced whole baby squid in our crisped cassava crumb, with creamy aioli

Fiery King Prawns

Four fat, fiery prawns, split & cooked in lemon, chilli & tomato sauce, served with bread...taste okay but prawns not so fresh

Lamb Empanadas

Two homemade little crispy pasties; popular street food all over South America. Stuffed with slow-braised juicy lamb rubbed in smoky chilli & garlic, served with fresh papaya & mint salsa...surprisingly good

Seviche

Seared Yellowfin tuna, crayfish, muss& cucumber salad in a citrus dressing...not a good choice, taste a bit bland for me

Mussels

A steaming bowl of mussels in a tomato, smoked jalapeño & half fat crème fraîche sauce, served with bread ...taste like chili musssels which was quite alright

Their tapas (gluten free choices), all taste okay but not so great...

We would recommend La Tasca if you're hunting for tapas around Nottingham area. For a good deal, go during Sunday to Thursday as they offer 'Tapas for a Tenner' (eat all you can tapas), a selection of tapas from their menu!

China China, Nottingham

Just 2 weeks ago, China China transform from a posh cocktail-champagne-wine and restaurant place in Nottingham to a Chinese restaurant serving a more authentic a la carte Chinese dishes and a dim sum place.

We went to taste their dimsum one Sunday afternoon and have also then, tried their ala carte dishes last evening.

Siu Mai, Ha Kao, Chicken feet with blackbean sauce, Yam croquette

Salt and pepper squid, Prawn dumpling with mayo,
Crispy bun with custard cream filling

Their dimsum are fresh, tasty and served hot. We'll definitely frequent this place for them!

A LA CARTE:

Steam turbot fish

Fried oysters with ginger and spring onions

The dishes were rather tasty, but the fish was not salty enough... we had to ask for soy sauce. We would definitely go back for to taste their other dishes, most likely the meat dishes.

We were quite delighted when we were given 20% off for dimsum and 10% off for a la carte. (i think it's only for a promotional period)
